Du'a For One Afflicted By Calamity

To Allah we belong and unto Him is our return. O Allah, recompense me for my affliction and replace it for me with something better.

And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient,
Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah , and indeed to Him we will return."
Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.

[QS Al Baqarah :155-157]

Umm Salamah (RA) reported that Rasulullah(SAW) said: "Whenever an affliction strikes a muslim and he says, as Allah commanded him, "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajiun. Allahumma ajirni fi musibati, wa akhlif li khayran minha – To Allah we belong, and to Him will we return – O Allah, reward me for my affliction and replace it for me with that which is better," Allah will then surely replace it for him with that which is better."

The Lament....Ya Allah Give me strength

O Allah, the stars of Your sky have sunk
The eyes of Your creatures have shut in deep slumber
But Your doors are opened wide
For beggars of Your love.

I come before You,
seeking Your forgiveness
Begging for Your love

O Allah, by Your honor and Your might
I swear I commit wrongdoings not because I oppose You
Every evil deed performed was not because I doubt nor defy You
Not because I disregard Your punishment
Not because I revolt against Your law
I do it because of the provocation of my desires
And because You offer Your veil to cover my shame

O Allah an ungrateful servant i have been
As my age increases, my sins multiply
As remorse felt, repented i have not been
Your Paradise is my aim... and yet Your words I did not comply

O Allah
Make my path easier
You are the Most Bestower
You are the Opener of all doors to Rizq
Open it ya Allah............

Our Lord! do not punish us if we forget or make a mistake; Our Lord! do not lay on us a burden as Thou didst lay on those before us, Our Lord do not impose upon us that which we have not the strength to bear; and pardon us and grant us protection and have mercy on us, Thou art our Patron, so help us against the unbelieving people. (QS Al Baqarah:286)

Ameen Ameen Ya Rabbal 'Alameen

Islam abhors all kind of Hypocrisy

It is most hateful to Allah that you should say that which you do not do. (QS As-Saff:3)

One of the worst characteristics that Islam abhors is hypocrisy. Many of us Muslims relate hypocrisy with the act of selling the deen to the disbelievers, many did not know also that nifaq/hypocrisy has levels. Hypocrites have many characteristics, the worst and most serious of which is disbelief in Allah and the previous being mentioned is a major nifaq, which in Qur'an will be mentioned that those act will surely lead to hell. There are however minor nifaqs which will not straightly put us to hell, however when the minor hypocrisy is done continuously without self consciousness to change then we really should be questioning our emaan, coz Mo’mens are those who are and will do all their might to be closer to Allah instead of away. Dishonesty i.e. lies are one of the minor nifaq, among their characteristics are those which were described by the Prophet SAW:

"There are four (characteristics), whoever has all of them is a complete hypocrite, and whoever has some of them has some element of hypocrisy, unless he gives it up: when he speaks, he lies; when he makes a treaty, he betrays it; when he makes a promise, he breaks it; when he quarrels, he resorts to insults."(Narrated by Muslim, 53)

Among their characteristics is a concern with appearances and fancy speech whilst they are inwardly corrupt. Allah says concerning them:

"And when you look at them, their bodies please you; and when they speak, you listen to their words. They are as blocks of wood propped up. They think that every cry is against them. They are the enemies, so beware of them. May Allaah curse them! How are they denying (or deviating from) the Right Path?"[QS Al Munaafiqoon:4]

We will find many of us Muslims behave this way, we most of the times act angelical in front of the peers, saying and acting nice and religious and astaghfirullah behave otherwise when their back is turned. Our solely intention will no longer about pleasing Allah, but the crowds more, naudzubillahi min dzalik.

The Prophet Salallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam spoke about hypocrisy several times, and every time He used some graphic description that showed how ugly and unbecoming all types of hypocrisy were. Two Hadiths in this connection are particularly interesting. The first is put very simply by the Prophet SAW who wanted His audience to fully understand his purpose. He said:

“One of the worst people is a double-faced man, who come to one group with one face and to another group with a totally different face.” (Related by Al-Bukhari and Ibn Hibban).

The Prophet Salallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam describes a hypocrite person as double-faced, and then he explains why He has described him as such, showing him as though he actually had two faces. If there are two groups with some differences, or dispute, he would speak to each one in a way that would please them, and say to one group the opposite of what he says to the other. Hence, the Prophet says that such a person is one of the worst types of people. This is certainly true, because such a person could not be a man of faith who fears ALLAH. As such, he always seeks what he thinks to serve his immediate interests, knowing that this will mean that he lies to both groups or at least one of them.A similar Hadith is reported by Ammar ibn Yasir, an early companion of the Prophet, who quotes him as saying:

“Whoever is double-faced in this life will have two tongues of fire in the hereafter.” A big man then passed by and the Prophet said: “This is one of them.” (Related by Al-Bukhari in Al-Adab Al-Mufrad, Abu Dawood, Al-Darimi and others).

Here the Prophet gives a more graphic description of hypocrites. The description concentrates on the hypocrite’s tongue, because it is with his words that he tries to cheat people and get the better of them. They always says to their interlocutors what would please them, so that they will be included in their good books. They do not care if what they say is untrue, because all they care for is their own interest.
Because a hypocrite relies on lying, thinking that he could lie his way out of any difficulty, God gives him two tongues on the Day of Judgment, but both are made of fire. This is a horrid picture, but very apt for such a person.
One thing every hypocrite lacks is a sense of shame. When they do something against the morality of society, they do not feel ashamed because they think that they can still get away with it, saying a few words to please one person and a few others to please someone else. That their words are lies do not trouble them. They have no sense of shame. But this sense is one that all divine messages try to promote. The Prophet SAW says:

“Among the words people received from early prophets are: if you feel no shame, then do as you wish.” (Related by Al-Bukhari, Abu Dawood, Ibn Majah, Ahmad and others).

This Hadith admits more than one interpretation. The first is that if you feel you will not be ashamed for doing what you intend to do because you can justify it as correct and there is nothing in it to be ashamed of, then you may go ahead and do it without hesitation. It may be that what you are about to do is something right, although some people may prefer that you do not do it. Since you are sure that it is just and fair, then you have nothing to answer for as a result of doing it.

You are perfectly entitled to do it. If we prefer this interpretation of this Hadith, then it is important to examine what we intend to do before embarking on it. If we find it to be perfectly acceptable and we are clear in our conscience that it is right for us to do, then that is all we need to ascertain in order to proceed with it.

Secondly, the Hadith may be taken to mean that if a person is incapable of any feeling of shame, and could not care less whether he brought shame on himself, his family or his people, then there is nothing to stop him from doing what is censurable. If we take this interpretation of the Hadith, then we observe that it is phrased in the imperative, but it is meant as a reproach. It could also be said that the Hadith means that having no sense of shame is much worse than what one may actually do.

It is important to know what may be included in having a proper sense of shame. Some people suggest that a shy person is incapable of confronting others with the truth he knows. As a result, he does not fulfill his duty to enjoin what is right and to speak out against what is wrong. His shyness may even lead him to the non-fulfillment of certain rights or duties. Such an attitude is not what is meant in having a sense of shame in the above-mentioned Hadith. This is simply a manifestation of weakness. A proper sense of shame is that which causes a person to feel afraid of being blamed for something unbecoming. It may also lead a person to forgo what rightfully belongs to him because he is too shy to demand it. Hence the virtue Islam values highly is to feel ashamed as a result of a wrong that one may do, to be afraid of blame for committing something unbecoming, and to be too modest to demand something for oneself if people may think that such a demand is made for a personal gain. It is such modesty that the Prophet SAW describes as being part of faith.

Abdullah ibn Umar reports that ALLAH’s messenger (Peace be upon Him) passed by a man who was blaming his brother for being too modest. The Prophet said to him:

“Leave him alone. Modesty is a characteristic of faith.” (Related by Al-Bukhari, Muslim, At-Tirmidhi and others).

Apparently the man who was being blamed was too modest to claim what rightfully belongs to him. It may be very difficult to change his attitude. We notice that the Prophet has counseled this man to leave his brother alone making it clear to him that such modesty and having a sense of shame is indicative of strong faith. The Prophet’s statement makes it clear that although modesty may prevent a person from demanding his rights, it remains a virtue for which no one should be blamed. It is true that a modest person may not get his rights, but by forgoing them, he is sure to receive a much greater reward from God. It should be added here that the Prophet himself was a very modest person. He is described to have had a more refined sense of shame than a virgin in her private room.

If the kuffaar are obvious enemies from without, then the hypocrites are hidden enemies from within. They are more harmful and more dangerous to the Muslims, for they have a lack of shame they will resort to everything to gather the crowds to be on their side, they will not care that they have representing a bad image of ISLAM. So brothers and sisters let us remind ourselves not to be easy on committing minor nifaq, for it will lead us to a major nifaq if we do this continuously and has no intention to change. ALLAH is enough for us, we Muslims will and are only content when we have HIM on our side, and we Muslims will continue doing things that will only pleases HIM, and we Muslims will kept ourselves away from things that displeases HIM. ALLAH is and will always be our solely purpose and intention. May we always remember this, and may we always striving to be a good Muslim, a Muslim who is worthy of it’s title. Ameen Ya Rabbal ‘Alameen.

I'tiraf, Prayer of Repentance

I'tiraf is a poem which is actually a du'a uttered by a slave of Allah by the name of Abu Nawas. A naive and comedic person known as the jester which his acts and sayings always drew laughter from the crowds. There is an inspirational story on how the du'a was occuring.

Once upon a time, there was a middle aged man sitting alone, watching the sun slowly setting.The atmosphere was quiet and serene, he saw how beautiful the sky is which clouds are filled with orange colour. He watched it thoroughly, until finally the beauty of the scene disappeared by the disappearance of the sun that has set. With no particular reason, which he himself don't know why, all of a sudden he can't hold back his tears. He felt so distressed and he cried his heart out and then putting his hand up and saying :

” Ilahi lastu lil firdausi ahlan
Walaa aqwaa ‘alannaril jahiimii
fahabli taubatan waghfir dzunuubi
fainnaka ghafirudzdzambil ‘adzhiimii
dzunuubi mitslu a’daadir rimali
fahablii taubatan yaa dzal jalaali
wa ‘umrii naaqishun fii kulliyaumi
wa dzambii zaa idun kaifahtimali
ilahi ‘abdukal ‘aashi ataaka
muqirran bi dzunubi waqad da’aaka
fa in taghfir faanta lidzaka ahlun
wa in tadrud faman narjuu siwaakaa"

which means :
God, I don't deserve your paradise,
but I can't withstand your hellfire,
so allow me to repent and please forgive my sins,
as You are the Forgiver of Sins.

My sins is as much as the sands at the beach,
so allow me to repent oh He Who Have All The Greatness
my lifetime decreases each and everyday,
but my sins increases, I can't help it

God, this sinful servant of Yours
Indeed I have sinned and I ask of You,
If you forgive indeed You are the Forgiver of Sins,
but if You refuse, to whom should we pray to other than You.

Abu Nawas, a character which knowns as a naive, abit silly and ridiculous jester is actually a very nice and sincere man. Those beautiful words above is a manifestation of his acknowledgment of all the sins he has committed. When he realize he is getting older and older, then the time for him to meet his creator is getting closer and he has no preparation for it, and acknowledging that he has sinned so much he felt he don't deserve of Allah's paradise but the sight of hellfire is so frightening for him to even withstand. Therefore, he then come to an acknowledgment that he is but a humble servant who has no power even for his own self 's fate, and only through repentance and seek for Allah's forgiveness then he will be enlightened from the severity of hellfire he frightened so much.

He cried when watching the sunset, coz he realize that is the metaphor of life. Only very seldom we took time in pondering upon the signs of Allah's greatness. When sun is about to set, then the scenery will be so beautiful and the atmosphere will become serene and hypnotizing it drew many people including us to be enchanted by it. And we don't realize that soon the sun will set and the darkness of the night will cover it. Only a few realize and prepared themselves by lighting some lamps to fend off the darkness.

Rasulullah SAW cried till his chest shook and his beard soaked with his own tears wh en receiving a revelation from Allah ”
Behold! in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day,- there are indeed Signs for men of understanding, Men who celebrate the praises of Allah, standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and contemplate the (wonders of) creation in the heavens and the earth, (With the thought): "Our Lord! not for naught Hast Thou created (all) this! Glory to Thee! Give us salvation from the penalty of the Fire. ” (QS. Ali - Imran : 190 - 191)

When Bilal ibn Rabbah, the favourite muadzin of Rasulullah SAW came and asked : " Why are you crying O Rasul Allah, when Allah has forgiven al ur past and future sins?"
Rasulullah then answered, " Haven't I yet becoming a grateful servant? And then Rasulullah said " Woes to those who read this ayah and not taking time pondering it"

This time of the moment, either Rasulullah SAW or Abunawas is no longer with us, however we must ponder upon this. Have we become a grateful servant and are we aware of the whole purpose of our existence and our duty for HIM?. As Rasululllah has stated that our life in this world is but temporary, a mere transit to reach our prominent destination, which is akhirah. Do we have enough supplies to continue the journey? An akhirah journey to reach the true life, an eternal and everlasting life.

May we always have the wisdom to take lessons from every events in our life. Wallahu'alam bi shawab.

Are We Muslim???

Asyhadu al-la ilaha illallah, wa asyhadu anna Muhammadar-Rasulullah.
I bear witness in my heart, that there is no Lord but Allah.
and I bear witness in my heart, that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
He who is called Lord is the Being who creates heaven and earth and the contents thereof.
I bear witness that the most Excellent Prophet Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah, for mankind throughout the whole world.

Syahada is the first step one must take to be a Muslim, but has the effort then stop there? at a declaration of faith? A teacher of mine says : One who would truly recite syahadat is required to incorporate two things: the first is to pronounce it by the tongue and to fill the heart with earnestness while witnessing that there is no god that can be rightfully worshiped but Allah, and that Prophet Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. He must be sure that Prophet Muhammad's prophethood is to teach jinn and humankind about the divine message written in the Holy Qur'an. Secondly, real recital of syahadat should be accompanied by tasdiq, ta'dhim, khurmah and khilwah. Tasdiq means affirming that Allah is the sole God; ta'dhim means glorifying God; khurmah means exalting God; and khilwah means being generous in accepting Allah as the sole God; that is the real syahadat. Ignoring those elements is to mar the recital of syahadat and one's becoming a Muslim is only superficial.

The 1st part of the declaration of faith There is no god but Allah means that nothing other than Allah is worthy of worship thus denies the attribution of divinity to all other things, and affirms it as a quality which belongs to Allah alone. As for the second part of the declaration, 'Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah', this means that we do what the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, has told us to do, and stop doing what he has told us not to do.

Many of us sadly has professing, declaring and then violating what we declared. Allah has said :

Do men think that they will be left alone on saying, "We believe", and that they will not be tested? We did test those before them, and Allah will certainly know those who are true from those who are false. (Al-Ankaboot:2-3)

This is an admonition in the form of a question, meaning that Allah will inevitably test His believing servants according to their level of faith. Every person who claims to be a true Muslim will be tested and tried by Allah. These trials can be in the form of starvation, famine or oppression from the disbelievers, even wealth, loved ones can also be our test, which are can divert our sole love to Allah alone.

Temptation lunged themselves at us at everytime, from every corner. A sincere and steadfast believer are those who can fend off the temptation, and even if they were strayed and sinned, they hurriedly ask for repentance and won't do the same sin ever again. To err is human, but human are endowed with brain and aql, to keep making the same err is not khilaf, it is but ignorance.
We have declared that we submit to Allah and will do what Allah has ordered and avoid things Allah has forbid, and that we believe Prophet SAW is Allah's messenger and thus we will follow what the Prophet has done and ordered by Allah. And yet, we abuse, we slander, we lied and we transgress, knowingly that the things we've done are the things Allah has forbid us to do. We skipped salah, we dont do zakat, we neglected hajj and we refuse to treat others with good attitude, knowingly those are the things Allah has ordered us to do. We ignored Allah's order and committing Allah's prohibition. And yet we still expecting the paradise for us?

Are we still worthy to be called a Muslim after all those things that we did? Are we sill entitled for Allah's mercy? Do we still dare hoping for paradise? Let us all be kaffah in our deen and let us all strive to be a good muslim. A Muslim who are worthy of the title. May Allah help us all.

When I fall in love

Ya Allah, when I fall in love
Make me fall to one who anchored his love to YOU
So that he will increase my strength for loving YOU
Make me fall to one whose heart filled with the love for YOU
So that the more in awe and adoration I will be falling for YOU

Ya Allah, when I fall in love, don’t let my love for YOU abated
So bad that it will make me negligent of paying your heed
Preserve the love I have for YOU my beloved
And not to let my love for the other exceeded


Ya Allah, when I fall in love, let me touch one whose heart attached to YOU
So fell not I will into an abyss of pseudo love
Ya Allah, when I fall in love, preserve my heart and my love
So turn not I will from YOU
Fill my heart with your unlimited love
So my feeling will always be solid and undivided for YOU


Ya Rabbul Izzati, when I am I yearning
Let me yearn for one who yearns of shahid in YOUR path
Ya Allah, when I am yearning
Don’t let my yearn for him exceeded my yearns for YOUR jannah
Ya Allah when I am enjoying the love of someone
Don’t let the love exceeded the joy of the beautiful munajat to YOU in the wee hour of the night


Allahu Rabbi, when I fall in love
Let us meet
Give us chance to be one step closer to YOU
Ya Allah, strengthen the bind, strengthen the love
Make us firm in our aim
Fill these hearts with YOUR light that never dim
Broaden our hearts with an abundant faith only to YOU

And Ya Rabb, when I fall in love
Never let me turn my face from YOU
Endow me with YOUR love
A Love that never vanish through time

End Year Message

We bid farewell to another year of the Hijra of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), a year which contains numbers of days and nights which are what makes up your lifespan. If a day passes then a part of you has passed. You are but a body and spirit existent in a limited time period. When that period comes to an end you come to an end. It is only those of knowing and truthful in his journey will realize the true value of these days and nights that pass. They know that it is He Who made the Night and the Day to follow each other; for the one who wishes to reflect or to show gratitude. Whatever anyone has achieved throughout the days and nights that has not increased them in reflection and gratitude has missed the purpose and fundamental wisdom for which these days and nights were created and for which mankind was created.

We witness the passing of time and the alternation of seasons and changes and events. Things which are agreeable to us; things which are unpleasant – all of which test us. We witness the passing away of those who live alongside, some of it expected, some of it unexpected. All of this is by the decree of the All-Powerful Sovereign.

We welcome yet another new year, every individual must look at their level of reflection and gratitude so they may obtain their provision from these days and nights. Amongst the meanings of reflection is removing the veils from the spirit to remember the original covenant which it took with its Lord and clearing away the dust to extend its gaze to its eventual destination. As for gratitude, everything which is of any benefit to creation comes into its sphere. It is HE Who made the Night and the Day to follow each other: for the one who wishes to reflect or to show gratitude .

Reflect upon these attributes and ask yourself what portion you have of them. Do not be content merely to pass over them superficially. Delve into them deeply, hold firm to them and actualize their meanings. Each of these attributes has a residing place in your inner being. If each attribute finds its place you will, in your inner being, be one of the slaves of the Most Gracious and every day and night you will increase in reflection and gratitude, and HE will prepare you for an indescribable reward. The Prophet said that Allah has said : “I have prepared for my righteous slaves that which no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and what no man can imagine.” Now no person knows what delights of the eye are kept hidden for them - as a reward for their deeds. As-Sajda:17

At the end of this year may Allah grant us the ability to please HIM through seeking to improve our knowledge, our efforts in life and our actions and what takes places in our houses and what is in our hearts. Nothing should be more beloved to us than Allah and nothing in creation, not even Paradise, should be more beloved to us than HIM. No created thing can take precedence over Allah, because Allah is the giver of life of all HIS creation. We ask Allah to purify our hearts, and to brighten them with faith. May He turn our mind more towards seeking HIS pleasure and fill or hearts with HIS love, HIS fear and belief in HIM. May Allah help us striving and struggling in the path HE has ordained. Ameen

Petualangan ini hanya dibekali tanda-tanda sederhana yang mungkin sering kita jumpai, seperti hal-hal biasa yang lazim kita temukan di keseharian tetapi sesungguhnya penting untuk kita tinjau ulang. Sebab, siapa tahu semua itu adalah tanda, yang akan menyusun sebuah peta menuju jawaban yang mencerahkan kita. Nah, dibuku ini kita akan diajak kembali menyelami lautan pertanyaan yang mengasyikan. Mengembalikan lagi masa kecil kita sebagai "filsuf keseharian". Ibarat mata kucing yang selalu bertanya, begitulah perumpaan yang dipakai jadi judul buku ini.

Dari buku “A Cat In My Eyes”, saya paling suka prosanya yang berjudul “Skizofrenia”. Entah mengapa, saya merasa prosa itulah yang paling mewakili penelusuran seorang Fahd. Namun sepanjang perjalanan 176 halaman buku tersebut masih banyak lagi cerita dan metaforanya yang akan memukau para pembacanya. Fahd Djibran, sang penulis tidak banyak memaksakan atau memastikan tentang area ketidakpastian, ia sangat bijak untuk menghormati area tersebut dengan kerap kali membubuhkan "barangkali" atau "tidak tahu" saat berada diujung kesimpulan. Ada yang bilang semakin dewasa seseorang, ia akan lebih banyak menyatakan tidak tahu ketimbang meyatakan kepastian. Kedewasaannya tertangkap dari kalimat yang ia utarakan dan saya suka sekali : “Aku ingin tetap berada di udara jika hidup adalah sebuah koin yang dilempar ke udara dan menjadikan kita sebagai salah satu sisi dari dua mata koin itu. Aku ingin berada di dunia antara, abu-abu, dunia fusi sinergis yang harmonis.”

Birthday Reflection

Uffff another year has passed by, m getting older (sob) but hopefully wiser,stronger and prettier (unlikely). Wishes and prayers from all beloved friends and family,a hug from my dearest mom and brothers, ahhhhhhh warms my heart n make me feel like I mean something, someone. It should've make me feel grateful coz m surrounded by people who cares about me. Still, it doesn't make those stupid thoughts in that stupid brain of mine stop wondering. Been ages I have never celebrate my birthday nor musing over it, it passed like any other ordinary day. But this year i felt like i need to pause and rewind, what have i done all these years until this recent year, what have i achieve, what have i accomplished???? a big zero. Birthday isn't only a time to celebrate but also a time to reflect. I tend to get quite reflective and maybe even a little morose on the milestone days of the year: birthday, New Years and so on, i made a couple of resolution which offcourse some will be done and some are just forgotten. Today is no different, There is some strange kink in my personality that keeps me always looking forward. I am always wondering what is coming up around the next bend. When I examine my life I am far more likely to wonder what I will BE than to reflect on what I have become. I’m not sure if this is a good or a bad thing, but at least some good has come of it. It allows me to look forward to getting older instead of looking for a way to whine about it.But this day, maybe m just having one of those days, the blue mood, can't seem to find a positive thinking in me. Those who has passed over 25 and so, are called the late twenties. I look at newspapers, magazines, news and was looking at the successful life of people my age or even less, i look around and see my friends and relatives are having their stable life and stable career, uffffff i work but i can't exactly call this a career, n then i turn on tv n the show has a topic "your job isn't your career", yeah right mister, way to go to to make me feel discourage, n lots have started to contribute to their family tree and me??????? pfffffttt, stop asking. Suddenly i felt like i am no one, i have accomplished nothing, made zero improvement for myself and then sobs and more sobs following i felt........lousy, messy, stinky u name it, i am it. sobs, a little help :((, m drowning. Anyway, happy birthday dee, congrats, u're pathetic, thank u , a very nice information, will keep that in mind, yeah like this monologue will make u even more better, cut it out.

Poem "Sorrow"

To whom it may concern, cheer up and don't be gloomy, life's too short so live ur life to the fullest and take each life's test as it come, heads up and deal with life. Allah will help us all the way, Allah's love knows no boundaries, ask and u will have it. Past is to be taken as a lesson, not to be dwelling about for the future is ahead of u and it won't wait. So chin up, head up soldier!!!

Sorrow

When you are wrapped in sorrow
And filled with deep despair
The path might seems too narrow
And no one seems to care

Raise your eyes and look beyond
You will sees things to look upon
GOD is there, watching you
Ask to HIM, HE will help you through

All our fate, is HIS to arrange

And of troubles we'll be free.

Spritual Guidance For Ailing People

When my mom was sick and during accompanying her in the hospital, we were given this little but so beneficial book. I find this book a heart moving and motivating for those who are in ailment. Especially my mom, I read this book to her whenever she was feeling down and depressed and add a bit of my own words :D it always lift her mood up. InsyaAllah, it will be beneficial to us all too.

1. Sickness and our effort to heal it
We do not know when Allah SWT will call us to return to HIM. So, remain conscious of Allah SWT till the end of our lives, as a Muslim, we perceive illness as a test from Allah SWT on our faith and patience. Allah SWT says in the Al-Qur’an :

“And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and foods, but give glad tidings to As-Sabirun (the patient ones). Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: ‘Truly! To Allah (swt) we belong and truly, to him we shall return.’”
(Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:155-6).

In facing this test, it does not mean that we leave everything to Allah SWT and take it as fate but making no effort to recover from this illness. According to the teachings of our Prophet Muhammad SAW, first we have to make an effort and then leave the result to Allah SWT (tawakkal). We must believe that Allah is the one who send this test so we must also believe Allah is the ONE who will cure us. Rasulullah said : “Allah (swt) never sends down a disease to mankind without sending down a cure for it.” (Narrated by Imam Bukhari). From this hadith, we can understand that for every sickness there is a cure for it. We should believe in this and do not lose our hope to always make effort to recover because Allah's promise is always true.

2. Do not have a treatment with the haram thing
The Prophet Mohammed SAW said: "O servants of Allah seek remedy, for Allah has not put an ailment except that he puts its remedy except one ailment. They asked: what ailment? He said: old age. Even though seeking remedy is ordered by Allah, but the usage of the medicine are limited to those halal things. Therefore it isn't allowed to use haram things or najis as a source of remedy.

3. Illness is a test from Allah so face it with sabr and ridha
Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri and Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, "No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that."

Narrated 'Abdullah:
I visited Allah's Apostle while he was suffering from a high fever. I said, "O Allah's Apostle! You have a high fever." He said, "Yes, I have as much fever as two men of you." I said, "Is it because you will have a double reward?" He said, "Yes, it is so. No Muslim is afflicted with any harm, even if it were the prick of a thorn, but that Allah expiates his sins because of that, as a tree sheds its leaves."

Those two hadeeths means that illness, as it comes from Allah is a test on our faith, how are we gonna deal with this ailment we are having. Sabr, linguistically means "patient, calm, daring to face anything and holding back from jeremiad". While terminologically, sabr is a feeling where we could accept everything that happened to us sincerely and patiently. While ridha, linguistically means willing or happy, and terminologically it means accepting what Allah has given willingly, be it a rule, law or destiny.

Allah has said : O ye who believe! seek help with patient perseverance and prayer; for Allah is with those who patiently persevere. (QS Al-Baqarah:153) and also in other surah Allah has said : Say: "O ye my servants who believe! Fear your Lord, good is (the reward) for those who do good in this world. Spacious is Allah's earth! those who patiently persevere will truly receive a reward without measure!" (QS-Az-Zumar:10).

Sometimes, when we are having ailment, we are too busy in wallowing ourselves in grief, when Allah has already stated and promised us to expiates our sin if we can accept it willingly and patiently, but there are also a few of us who aren't complaining nor wallowing but deep down think it is a useless act because it won't be beneficial, this is not considered patience or ridha rather an ignorance act. So, face our ailment with patience and ridha and know that Allah will rewarded us for it.

4. When sick, we should be khusnudzon to Allah and don't ever lose hope
Allah said : And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; (QS Asy-Syuaraa:80)
and also in another surah Allah has said :
Say O My slaves who have been prodigal to their own hurt! Despair not of the mercy of Allah, Who forgiveth all sins. Lo! He is the Forgiving, the Merciful (QS Az-Zumar:53).

As Muslims, having faith in Allah SWT, we believe that all that is good and bad comes from Allah SWT, and that it is we who have to ask Allah SWT to protect us, our family and the public from every ailment we are facing. We should seek help from Allah SWT that this outbreak of disease should go away from us. Moslems aren't quitter, nor those who lose hope easily, why would we lose hope when Allah has promised us a hefty reward if only we are patient. The Quran informs us what to do when we face these tests in our life and also tells us about the reward that we will receive if we are successful in dealing with the situation in the way we are expected to.

"Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere, Who say, when afflicted with calamity: "To Allah We belong, and to Him is our return":- They are those on whom (Descend) blessings from Allah, and Mercy, and they are the ones that receive guidance. [QS Al-Baqarah :155-157].

We are to be patient during hard times and always remember that Allah(swt) is the Creator of everything and We all will return to HIM. No deed is lost in front of Allah and we will be rewarded for even the minutest good that we ever did do. Tests that were given to us are signs of Allah's love. This world is is a field of tests and one should not deny or avoid these but should face them and pass them bravely. A person can be put into hardships for a number of reasons and we might not know those reasons when undergoing a certain loss but what we must do is always remember Allah SWT, be patient, abstain from what is unlawful, give charity and ask Allah to help ease out our hard times. If we do fail to do this then we should turn to Allah SWT and ask for forgiveness. Allah SWT is Most Merciful and InsyaAllah HE will forgive us for the wrong that we do. A believer is similar to a scale, the stronger his faith, the more his sufferings will be. Allah is The Reign Supremacy whom we should fear and trust. Allah holds the key to our fate and HE will never do humans injustice, so when we are sick, leave everything to Allah, then InsyaAllah, we will all be rewarded. Ameen

In life, we will always face and deal with every choices we have to make. Life itself is a choice, since we're still in our mother's womb, I've been told that we also have made a choice. When we're still a little and learning how to walk, we're also facing options we have to choose, imagine if when we were little, we have given up so easily when we were tired to learn how to walk and finally decided to crawl, then we will crawl for the rest of our life :( . But, humans unlike animals were created with akl, aka brain n mind, We could differentiate good from bad, right from wrong which then we manifested into a decision.

When we're being confronted with 2 choices, good or bad, things we love or hate, then the process of decision making wouldn't be so hard. But what if we have options which almost all of it we're in favour of .This, off course would be a lot harder, especially if it's regarding the biggest choices in our life which will more or less affecting our future. How would we know whether the road we've taken isn't the wrong one? How would we know of God's plan on us next?. As a Moslem, we must pray and leave the rest to Allah, Allah knows what's best for us. Du'a is an interaction between God and God's creation, by praying and offering du'as we have involving Allah in every decision we have made. But, is by praying and offering dua then everything will all be fine? What's good in a du'a if we don't believe in it. We must also believe when we're praying that Allah will help us and lead us all the way. So what if we can't get what we want in the end, but be sure that Allah will replace it with a greater good, might not be in material form but a better option anyway.

The most important thing in making a decision is never ever make a decision in our troubled mind, unstable emotion or unhealthy condition. Muse and think for a while then decide it when we have calmed. And don't ever choose something to follow others or because it's a trend to choose it. Choose something because we like it and we want to do it. But, we're just a human being, there are times we made the wrong choice. Maybe we forgot to pray and then made the bad choice in life and then regretting it, I have done that too, not once, not twice, but several times :, but then I realized that regretting without correcting is useless. Maybe, not everything I have decided is the best, but it's life. Life is a process, to achieve the greater good. Improving ourselves to be better is a challenge in daily life. There are times, the road to go there is smooth and easy, but often we have to suffer a little to get there. But if we endure it with a big heart and be happy no matter what happen and leave the rest to Allah then InsyaAllah it all won't be hard as it seems.

Like an expecting mother, even though she has to waited a long time with all the pregnancy problem she will encounter, but if she she's dealing it with sabr then all the problem and awaiting will feel like a blessing instead of a burden. As long as we live, then we all always facing choices in life. Wrong choices will affect our life, but mistakes aren't to be regretted but to be corrected. We are brave enough to live then we also have to be brave to make choices and deal with the consequences. Keep praying and making du'as and involve Allah in every decision we have to make. InsyaAllah, Allah will show us the right way. Ameen.

Translation of Al-Bakarah 184:
"The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for mankind, and clear proofs of the guidance, and the Criterion (of right and wrong). And whosoever of you is present, let him fast the month, and whosoever of you is sick or on a journey, (let him fast the same) number of other days. Allah desireth for you ease; He desireth not hardship for you; and (He desireth) that ye should complete the period, and that ye should magnify Allah for having guided you, and that peradventure ye may be thankful."

Sulitnya Membuat Pilihan

Dalam hidup, kita akan selalu dihadapkan pada pilihan.Hidup itu adalah pilihan, begitu pepatahnya. Sedari kita dalam kandunganpun, kita katanya telah membuat pilihan. Ketika kita masih kecil dan belajar untuk berjalan, kitapun dihadapkan pada pilihan, bayangkan bila kita telah lelah untuk terus belajar berjalan dan akhirnya memutuskan untuk merangkak atau ngesot, kaya suster ngesot, hehehe :D. Tapi, manusia diciptakan dengan akal dan pikiran, berbeda dengan hewan yang tidak dapat membedakan yang baik atau buruk, kita dapat membedakannya. Kita tahu mana yang baik atau buruk, benar atau salah yang kemudian kita ejawantahkan dalam suatu keputusan untuk memilih.

Bila kita dihadapkan pada dua pilihan, baik atau buruk, hal yang sangat kita sukai ataupun yang sangat kita benci, maka proses dalam mengambil sebuah keputusan akanlah mudah. Tetapi bagaimana bila kita dihadapkan pada beberapa pilihan yang hampir kesemuanya kita suka. Tentunya akan sangat sulit, apalagi bila hal ini menyangkut pilihan terbesar dalam hidup kita yang nantinya sedikit banyak menentukan jalan hidup kita. Bagaimana kita tahu bahwa jalan yang kita ambil bukan jalan yang salah? Bagaimana kita mengetahui rencana Tuhan nantinya? Sebagai seorang Muslim, kita punya Tuhan yang selalu dapat diandalkan, Allah maha tahu apa yang terbaik untuk kita. Do'a adalah interaksi manusia dengan khaliknya, dengan berdo'a kita telah melibatkan Allah dalam sebuah pengambilan keputusan yang kita buat. Segala sesuatu yang terlihat buruk dimata kita, belum tentu buruk dimata Allah. Maka, berdoa adalah suatu jalan yang terbaik, tetapi apakah hanya dengan berdoa, lalu semua dapat teratasi dan kita akan mendapatkan jawaban terbaik. Tentu hanya Allah sajalah yang tahu, Allahlah yang menentukan, kita manusia hanyalah dapat berusaha dan menyerahkan segala sesuatunya pada Allah.

Hal yang terpenting dalam suatu pengambilan keputusan adalah, jangan pernah memutuskan sesuatu dalam keadaan hati yang galau, emosi yang tidak stabil atau kondisi kesehatan yang kurang baik. Merenunglah sesaat lalu putuskan ketika hati telah tenang. Jangan pernah pula mengambil keputusan yang berdasarkan ikut-ikutan atau karena gengsi. Pilihlah sesuatu karena kita suka dan ingin melakukannya.

Tapi kita hanyalah manusia, ada saatnya kita berbuat salah. Kita lupa berdoa dan membuat pilihan yang salah dalam hidup kita. Menyesali pilihan dalam hidup sesekali memang pernah terjadi, sayapun pernah beberapa kali membuat pilihan yang salah, tapi saya sadar bahwa menyesal tanpa memperbaiki itu tak ada gunanya. Mungkin tak semua pilihan saya adalah yang terbaik, tapi inilah hidup. Hidup adalah sebuah proses, proses untuk meraih sesuatu yang lebih baik. Menjadi lebih baik adalah tantangan dalam menjalani hidup setiap hari. Adakalanya proses itu dapat dilalui dengan mudah, tapi tak jarang pula semuanya harus melewati fase yang tidak nikmat, susah atau bahkan menderita. Tetapi jika kita menjalaninya dengan hati yang lapang dan perasaan gembira, maka semua itu tidak akan terasa berat.

Seperti seorang ibu yang mengandung, walaupun harus mengalami penantian yang panjang dengan segala masalah kehamilan yang dihadapi, tapi bila dijalani dengan sabar maka semua itu akan dirasakan sebagai sebuah anugrah dan bukanlah beban. Selama kita masih hidup, maka selama itulah kita akan dihadapkan pada pilihan-pilihan. Salah memilih akan berpengaruh banyak dalam hidup kita, tetapi kesalahan bukanlah sesuatu yang harus disesali melainkan diperbaiki. Berani hidup berarti berani membuat pilihan dan menanggung segala resikonya. Terus berdoa dan libatkan Allah dalam segala keputusan yang kita buat, InsyaAllah Allah akan memberikan jalan yang terbaik.

Why do we read Qur'an, even if we can't understand a single Arabic word????

This is a beautiful story

An old American Muslim lived on a farm in the mountains of eastern Kentucky with his young grandson. Each morning Grandpa wakeup early sitting at the kitchen table reading his Quran. His grandson wanted to be just like him and tried to imitate him in every way he could. One day the grandson asked, "Grandpa! I try to read the Qur'an just like you but I don't understand it, and what I do understand I forget as soon as I close the book. What good does reading the Qur'an do?" The Grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and replied, "Take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a basket of water." The boy did as he was told, but all the water leaked out before he got back to the house. The grandfather laughed and said, "You'll have to move a little faster next time," and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again. This time the boy ran faster, but again the bas ket was empty before he returned home. Out of breath, he told his gradpa

that it was impossible to carry water in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead. The old man said, "I don't want a bucket of water; I want a basket of water. You're just not trying hard enough," and he went out the door to watch the boy try again. At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would Leak out before he got back to the house. The boy again dipped the basket into river and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather the basket was again empty. Out of breathe, he said, "See Grandpa, it's useless!". "So you think it is useless?" The old man said, "Look at the basket." The boy looked at the basket and for the first time realized that the basket was different. It had been transformed from a dirty old coal basket and was now clean, inside and out. "Son, that's what happens when you read the Qur'an. You might not understand or remember everything, but when you read it, you will be changed, inside and out. That is the work of Allah in our lives.

I use to think this way too, why reading something when I don't even know the meaning. Why not learning and try understanding the meaning, then I'll read it when i could at least comprehend it. Reading and understanding the meaning is best, but that doesn't mean we who couldn't understand the meaning should not even try reading it. InsyaAllah Allah will reward and counts every deeds we did,Ameen.
